MINT (Mentha)

According to the legend, mint was called “Mentha” in honor of a fairy nymph Mentha whom the queen Persephone - the daughter of Zeus and Demetra, turned into an оdorous bush and gave to Aphrodite as a gift.
Mint was mentioned still in the Bible, in the book of Matthew, and was highly appreciated in Greece. In ancient Rome people were convinced that the aroma of mint puts people into high spirits, and that was the reason why the halls of feast were covered with the mint liquid and the tables were rubbed with mint leaves. A Roman scientist, military and political leader Pilineos the Elder was convinced that the smell of mint was favourable for the work of brain. For this reason he always had a crown of mint branches on his head and advised the same his pupils.
Avicenna suggested water mint for the purpose of preventing internal bleedings, headaches, digestive illnesses. What is more, he suggested mint for distension curing of blood vessels, for bringing appetite for the regulation of the intestine activity. Popular medicine advises to use mint for curing the central nerves system, for heart illnesses and for curing children’s rickets.
Mint tea is useful for digestion and gall production, prevents sickness. It is a vivifying drink.
